Iphone 5 Review

by Sai Krishna on September 30, 2012

creating a lot of stir in the market, iPhone 5 has been launched by Apple, adding yet another gadget to the celebrated iPhone series. With so much hype, pre-launch speculation and expectations resting on it, it is inevitable that iPhone 5 is no ordinary Smartphone. It is a hot topic for both critics and consumers. So how does it exactly stand up to competition? Let’s find out.

Looking for best cases? get them now.

Design

A rectangular phone with a round Home Screen button- that is the iconic look of iPhone and Apple has been wise enough to not radically tamper with it. With obvious changes in length, iPhone 5 has been set apart from the rest quite subtly. A metal cover has replaced Gorilla Glass on the back. It has a two-tone look and some claim that it is a sort of homage to the silver and black back of the original iPhone. It looks more like an amalgamation of the usual iPhone with iPad and Mac Book design.

Display

Finally, after five years, Apple has changed the dimensions of the stock 3.5 inch iPhone; however, it is not wider, it is longer.  The 4 inch screen has a whopping 1136 x 640p display with the same 326ppi pixel density. The app buttons and icons have not been increased in size which means more screen real estate for users to take advantage of.

Performance

In many ways, iPhone 5’s performance is way better than the previous editions. The brand new A6 processor and 1 GB RAM are both responsible for a smoother experience. The apps load really fast and the whole phone itself seems to run a lot faster with 4G LTE capabilities. Although iOS 6 is not revolutionary, it is a lot of small things made better. Siri has been updated and seems more compatible with iPhone 5 than it was with 4S.

Special mention must be made of iPhone case. There has been a lot of talk about the case making reception better. That may or may not be true, but using a case is paramount when a phone is as delicate and sophisticated as iPhone 5. A metallic or silicon iPhone case will give your precious phone the needed protection from impact.

Camera

Although the camera still shows some small changes since iPhone 4S, it is by no means a major overhaul. It is still an 8 MP snapper; the sapphire-crystal lens is an extravagance the previous phones haven’t been allowed. The overall performance of the camera is better than before. Images taken in low light is definitely a big improvement. The 1080p video shooting is quite good too.

Verdict

The positives of iPhone 5 are glaringly obvious. It is a step-up from iPhone 4S in every way. All the things we wanted in 4S has been incorporated in it- 4G LTE, a faster processor and a larger screen. However, it does let down in some areas. Maps are a right mess, Sprint and Verizon models cannot simultaneously operate with voice and data. And again we note the lack of NFC. But the pros outweigh cons decisively and despite the letdowns, iPhone 5 has proved once again why Apple is such a revered name in the telecom world.

I hope this review helps you to take a decision about your Iphone 5, if you are really planning to buy IPhone, I recommend you to use a case also for your new IPhone to protect it.
